Jan-Christoph Kalo is an Assistant Professor at the Intelligent Data Engineering Lab (INDElab) of the University of Amsterdam. His research studies how knowledge survives translation between representations — natural language, knowledge graphs, databases, formal logic, and the parameters of language models. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from TU Braunschweig (2021) on resolving representation heterogeneity in real-world knowledge graphs, and was a postdoctoral researcher in the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning group at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2021–2023). He co-organises the Dagstuhl Seminar “Large Language Models Meet Knowledge Graphs” (2026), the AKBC workshop, and the LM-KBC challenge, serves in the management team of the COST Action KGELL, is active in the COST Action GOBLIN, and teaches at the ISWS summer school and in the SIKS PhD programme.
